Skinny Foodaholic - mmmmPeople always ask me how I can be so skinny when I’m constantly eating. “You’re so lucky to be blessed with a super-fast metabolism”, they say.
The thing is, as a dietitian I know that there really is no such thing as a “super-fast metabolism” – I mean although there may be a slight discrepancy genetically on the metabolism front, the truth is to a great extent we are all born with a very similar system that can be adjusted by the way we choose to eat.
You think I’m being ridiculous don’t you? After all we’ve been hearing about this “super-fast metabolism” phenomenon from the time we practically entered the world, right? Ok – so let me ask you this – when was the last time you doubted that the person next to you had a different body temperature than your own? See what I mean?

So now you must be wondering  how it is possible that while most of us are constantly “dieting” that super skinny person you know gets to  chow down on a bag of chips and a candy bar and still be skinny (not that we should subsist on chips and candy bars – that would be a great injustice to all this other amazing food we have available to us).

I know it’s hard to believe but it really isn’t simply because they’ve been blessed with those elusively “good genes”, rather they have (wittingly or unwittingly) figured out how to eat in a way that automatically increases their metabolism!

How do I know this? Because over the 10+ years that I have been working in the nutrition field, I have had the opportunity to really look at this from all angles… and I want to share my insights with you so that you can do the same!

You see, I am a self-proclaimed skinny foodaholic mainly because I love to eat delicious food. To me if you can’t enjoy what your eating, you’re really missing out on one of life’s greatest pleasures! In my world TASTE is king – but I don’t see overly processed packaged food as delicious… don’t get me wrong I’m all for burgers and fries, good ice cream and I do love my cake (Mary Antoinette was a genius in my mind), but I want these foods to not just tickle my tastebuds but to nourish every little cell in my body too. And this IS possible when foods are made with wholesome ingredients.

A Little More About Me
Skinny Foodaholic - The Kids

I am a chronologically challenged Canadian who did most of my growing up in Halifax, Nova Scotia, where I completed both my Masters and Bachelors degrees in Applied Human Nutrition with a focus in Dietetics – I am a Mount graduate and member of the Nova Scotia Dietetic Association. I have also recently completed a Diploma in Natural Nutrition form the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition. I believe Halifax is HEAVEN ON EARTH – if you don’t believe me, you need to see it for yourself! :)
I have been blessed with an amazing family and am an aunt to a little army that includes an outspoken and independent niece and a whole bunch of nephews. So technically I’m a surrogate parent in training who’s had my share of diapers and teen drama… So I totally understand what you mean when you say picky eater 😛

I also DO NOT ENJOY COOKING – I know, blasphemy right? A dietitian who doesn’t like to cook 😛 But that’s why I am always on the search for recipes that are quick to make and freeze well – which actually works very well if you have a busy schedule (and I’m pretty sure you do)!

Skinny Foodaholic - Dubai Family

I currently reside in Dubai with my twin (who is the love of my life) and my brother more than brother-in-law (who’s my listening ear and tells it as it is) – and though it’s not Halifax, I am growing to love the city – WE HAVE SUMMER ALL YEAR ROUND… mind you this has it’s down fall – ask anyone who has had to survive the 50+C summer months!!

Work with Me

My personal nutritional philosophy embraces whole foods including things like butter and full fat milk which I believe are much more nourishing than their processed counterparts. I also believe that having an unhealthy gut is the number one cause for most of our troubles today and when your system is unbalanced even the most wholesome foods can make you sick! But simply eliminating good food from your diet permanently is hardly a solution. I believe in the philosophy that your body has everything it needs to heal – and food, the right types of it given at the right times, can be the best medicine. The best part is, once your system is back in sync we can really start having fun with food for a lifetime!

So if you are stuck in a rut and could use a bit of nutritional guidance, whether you want to lose weight, rebalance your gut or are looking for Medical Nutrition Therapy, I’ve been told that I’m that “good dietitian fairy” who tells you what you need to do and helps you stay on track… AND I’d love to point you in the direction that leads to long lasting health.

The best part is we can talk over a cup of virtual coffee in the comfort of your own home thanks to  Skype.  You can also read what people are saying about working with me on the Nutriacs Testimonials page.

Thanks for stopping by and getting to know me a little better.

With Love & Wishes of Good Health,
